October 30 Day Resolution: Get Scrappy

It is halfway through October which seems like a great time to tell you about my 30 day resolution for the month. Spoiler Alert: it is not to stop procrastinating.

A few years ago I was applying for a job with a nonprofit organization and one of the desired skills in the job description was that the ideal candidate be “scrappy resourceful.” When I initially read it I snickered a little but since have adopted it as a life motto. Scrappy Resourceful people always have a solution, granted it might not be the most conventional, practical, or easiest solution but we will get it done. It is about being thrown parts and pieces that may not look like anything special and turning them into something so fantastic that people will never believe what you started with.

Working in nonprofit, and subsequently being paid a nonprofit salary, has forced me to become scrappy resourceful in my personal and professional life. If I haven’t told you yet,  I moved recently and you know what moving means to a single lady with a modest salary? Once I moved into my new place I was also the newest resident of Brokeville. First months rent, security deposit, moving van rental, and all those fun setup fees for utilities later I am left with a new, and somewhat empty, apartment. So for October my resolution is to hone my scrappy skills.

I have been scouring websites for affordable furniture and decor (of course I will post pics and links). I have also been on a DIY kick, oh not just for decorations but for all kinds of things like at home facial peels, home-made cleaner (seriously vinegar plus lemon juice is fantastical magic), and finding creative uses for everyday household items.

The best part about being scrappy resourceful is the answer is never “no” it is always “ I will figure it out” and isn’t that the best way to look at life?

Got a scrappy resourceful story or tip of your own you want to share? I would love to hear it in the comments!
